(Corning, IA) — Atlantic has the lead after day one of the John J. Harris tournament hosted by Southwest Valley. The lead changing frequently on Friday and Winterset would take the team lead when Gavin Day had to come from behind to pin Luke Cleaver of Missouri Valley at 5:20. Next on the mat was Kalvin Hayes for the Trojans and he got put in a tight spot in the 2nd period and was almost pinned — instead the Sophomore fought through a spladle from Cole Scanman of Shenandoah, reversed him and pinned him at 3:18. That put Atlantic back into first place in the team standings going into Saturday.
Seven Trojans will be in the semifinals on Saturday — at 106 Keaton Schroeder won at 1:11 and 1:19, at 113 Collin Harris won at 4:18 in his only match, at 120 Braxton Hass won at 1:44 and 2:48, at 138 Aiden Smith won both matches by tech falls, at 144 Kalvin Hayes won at 2:26 and 3:18, at 190 Donovan Hedrington won his only match 9-6 thanks to a takedown with 30 seconds left, and at 285 Evan Sorensen only 33 seconds to win his two matches, :11 and :22.
