(Glenwood) The Atlantic girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are traveling to Glenwood tonight for a Hawkeye Ten Conference doubleheader. The two teams previously faced each other on December 2, where the Atlantic girls won 54-30, but the Glenwood boys topped Atlantic 67-47. Atlantic Head Boys’ Basketball Coach Dalton Franken emphasizes the need to slow down the Rams’ leading scorer, Ayden Gibson. The senior is averaging 20.75 points per game, shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 48 percent from beyond the arc. Coach Franken notes that Gibson is a tough matchup.
Point guard Jack Johnson provides support, averaging 11.38 points per game, while Drew Schroeder averages 9.25. Gavin McLaren leads with 16 points per game for the Trojans, and Kinnick Juhl follows closely with 11.40. Coach Franken views this as an opportunity to play against a strong team on the road, urging his squad to come out and play aggressively from start to finish.
The Glenwood boys’ team has a season record of 6-2 and is looking to end a two-game losing streak, while the Trojans are currently 2-6.
Atlantic Head Girls’ Basketball Coach Dan Vargason notes that the Rams have added height to their lineup since the two teams last met.
He acknowledges that the Trojans have also improved.
Paytn Harter leads the Trojans offensively, averaging 16.40 points per game, while Makenna Schroeder contributes 12 points. The Trojans enter the matchup with a record of 6-4, while Glenwood has a record of 2-5. The girls’ game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boys’ game. The broadcast will be available on 95.7 FM and live-streamed on westerniowatoday.com.
