(Malvern, IA) — Griswold is back on the hardwood tonight for a big Corner Conference showdown at East Mills — coverage of the girls boys doubleheader on KSOM.
Griswold girls are 2-1 and coming off of back to back wins over Southwest Valley 57-53 and Heartland Christian on Friday 45-20. Sophomore Amanda Houser is leading the Tigers in scoring, averaging 16.7 points a game. She had 31 points in the win over the Timberwolves going 15 of 31 from the field. Her Dad and Head Coach Aaron Houser did not realize she had taken that many shots
Griswold has committed 77 turnovers, which is nearly 26 a game but they have created a lot more with their press defense but Houser says they have to be more disciplined
They will face an East Mills team that is 3-1 and led by two freshmen — Ava Grindle (14.5 ppg) and Caitlyn Crouse (14.0 ppg) both get their points in the paint. Neither team has been effective three point shooting clubs — Griswold has been 6 of 49 for 12 percent while the Wolverines have only attempted 12 threes in their 4 games.
On the boys side, Griswold is 2-1 with wins over Fremont Mills 68-39 and last Friday beating Heartland Christian 56-47. After scoring 12 points in their first two games, Peyton Cook had 18 against the Eagles. Head Coach Ryan Lockwood says it will go a long way to developing his confidence
East Mills is 2-0 and led by 6-1 Jackson Embree who is nearly averaging a double – double — 14.5 ppg and 9.0 rbg. Lockwood believes has the defense to bottle him up inside
