(Avoca, IA) — There will be a lot of new faces in the starting line-up when the AHSTW girls basketball team opens their new season tonight. The Lady Vikes will lose 4 full time or part time starters from last year including leading scorer Delany Goshorn (13.4 ppg, 5.8 ppg). Ella Langer, Saydi Paulsen, Graycen Partlow and Rylie Knop have all departed as well so Head Coach Jason McCall will have to do a little rebuilding. Enter the Paulsen twins — Ava and Makenna are the only Juniors on the team and there are no seniors. Ava Paulsen got 9 starts last season, averaged 3.9 ppg and 4.7 rbg and McCall likes what he sees from her so far in the pre-season
Ava and Makenna are very similar players — Makenna (2.3 ppg) came off the bench all of last year. Sophomore Bella Lamp (1.5 ppg) saw some limited action last year and McCall says she is a high energy player who can also brings some leadership. Then there are three more sophomores — Macey Goshorn, Addison Carroll and Kendra Hansen — who will be thrust into the varsity rotation
McCall will have a lot of freshmen that will come in and fight for playing time and McCall will need them at the varsity level because of the lack of experience. But he thinks they will be handle it
Overall, McCall knows that AHSTW will be better as the season goes along
