(Undated) — It looks like eggs will be even more expensive this holiday season.
Bernt Nelson, an economist with the American Farm Bureau, said, “Bird flu is by far the biggest factor impacting egg prices right now. In the last couple months alone we have seen about 10-million birds affected by the virus.”
Increased demand combined with shortages from the avian flu have driven up costs 30 percent over last year, according to the consumer price index. The virus has killed 75-million egg-laying birds since 2022, about eight percent of the national supply.
