(Corning, Iowa) Corning, Iowa firefighters are stepping up to aid fellow firefighters in North Carolina, which was either destroyed or heavily damaged by Hurricane Helene. Volunteer firefighter Tim Cooney proposed a fundraiser on November 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Southwest Valley High School Activities Center in Corning.
Corning Fire Chief Tony Hardisty has been in contact with around a half dozen fire departments around the hard-hit area of Asheville. He says these are small rural township-type departments that have lost everything and have no resources left.
Chief Hardisty mentions that the fundraiser includes a breakfast-style meal served with scrambled eggs, French toast, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, and a pie auction every hour. Hardisty says Senator Ernst has secured a flag that has flown over the capitol and will be up for auction. The meal can also be accessed through drive-up.
Donations can be sent to the Corning Fire Department in care of “Hurricane Relief” at 905 Davis Avenue, Corning, Iowa, 50841.
