(Lawrence, KS) — Iowa St. Head Coach Matt Campbell says good teams play well in November — so far, no good — the Cyclones are 0-2 this month as Kansas proved much better than their 2-6 record as they won it on Saturday afternoon 45-36.
QB Jalon Daniels was 12-24 passing for 295 yards and 2 TD for the Jayhawks including a 70 yard TD in the first quarter to Luke Grimm to tie the game at 7-7. Devin Neal ran for 116 yards and 2 TD for KU — Neal’s 13 yard TD run made it 14-7 KU and then Daniels connected to Quentin Skinner for a 24 yard TD early in the 2nd quarter to make it 21-7. After Kyle Konrardy 22 yard field goal stopped the bleeding for Iowa St, KU went back to work — Daniels ran for a 2 yard TD and Tabor Allen got a 47 yard field goal. Konrardy got a 38 yard field goal just before halftime but Kansas had built an insurmountable 31-13 lead.
Rocco Becht was 24-37 passing for 383 yards — his career high for passing yards in a game is 446 in last year’s Liberty Bowl — and also had 3 TD passes and 1 INT. The interception was by Mello Dotson midway through the 4th quarter and returned 25 yards for a TD. Becht did set a Cyclone record by throwing a TD in 13 consecutive games.
Devin Neal’s 116 rushing yards made him the all time rushing leader in Kansas history passing June Hensley. Neal also passed Hensley for most rushing TD in Jayhawks history with 43.
Also for Iowa St., Jaylin Noel had 8 catches for 167 yards and 2 TD. Jayden Higgins had 7 catches for 88 yards. Carson Hansen was the leader in the ground with 8 carries for 48 yards and 1 TD. Iowa St. was 4-11 on third down while KU was 7-13. Kansas had 532 total yards (295 passing, 237 rushing; Iowa St 461 total yards (383 passing, 78 rushing)
Iowa St. falls to 7-2 and will host Cincinnati next Saturday, kickoff TBA. Kansas is now 3-6.
