(Fontanelle, IA) — Nodaway Valley Middle School has been recognized as one of the top schools in the entire state, if not the country. This week the U.S. Department of Education named five Iowa schools as a National Blue Ribbon school — Nodaway Valley Middle is one of 356 schools nationwide to be honored. Principal Sara Honnold says the school was identified as an exemplary high performing school measured by the state assessments — Nodaway Valley Middle performed in the top 15 percent of all Iowa public schools based on overall performance on school accountability factors such as student proficiency and growth. Honnold says that’s all because of the teachers and the work they have put in
Honnold hopes that the school takes pride in this Blue Ribbon school award and can stay at the level plus use it as a tool to recruit other teachers to come to Nodaway Valley Middle
Honnold says just because the school has a received a special award doesn’t mean the work is done to get even better
Honnold has only been Principal at Nodaway Valley for just over a year and says she is proud of the teachers and the support of the parents and what impact they are having on the Nodaway Valley Middle School students. The other schools in Iowa that received Blue Ribbon awards were Alta-Aurelia Middle School, Decorah High School, Rock Run Elementary in Iowa Falls, and Rock Valley Elementary. A National Blue Ribbon School award flag will be flown at each school’s entryway.
