(Mitchell Co) A fatal accident involving two semi-trucks occurred in Mitchell County on Thursday afternoon, resulting in one death and two injuries.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 60-year-old Eric Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia, was airlifted to Mayo Clinic’s Saint Marys Hospital by Mercy Air, where he later died from his injuries.
Two others were also injured. Senika Range, 43, of McDonough, Georgia, was taken to Regional Health Center by Mitchell County Emergency Services. Christo Van Der Linde, 24, of Stacyville, Iowa, was transported to the same hospital by a private vehicle.
The crash occurred when Senika Range, driving a 2024 Mack truck southbound on Kirwood Avenue, failed to yield at a stop sign. Range’s truck entered the intersection, where it was struck by an eastbound 2012 Peterbilt truck driven by Van Der Linde. Upon impact, a passenger in Range’s truck was ejected. The Peterbilt overturned and spilled its load of corn.
Emergency responders from the Stacyville Fire Department, Mitchell County Ambulance, and St. Ansgar Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
