Matthew Allen Carney was born on November 21, 1981, coincidentally sharing his birthday with his Great Grandfather, who went downtown, Adair (IA) and said they were only 88 years apart. Matthew was the second child of Clifford and Debra (Taylor) Carney, and in 1994, gained a stepmother, along with a stepbrother and stepsister.
He graduated from Adair-Casey high school in 2000, where he actively participated in football, FFA, racing, wrestling, art, and was a member of the Grant Sky Eagles 4-H Club. Matthew also enjoyed showcasing cattle at the Guthrie County Fair.
Following high school, Matthew pursued further education at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, earning a degree in recording engineering in 2002. He subsequently relocated to Nashville, where he initially worked in sales for the local manufacturing industry. Despite enjoying his work, Matthew’s culinary talents drew attention, especially his knack for grilling, which earned him praise from family and friends.
In 2012, the concept of Smokin’ Thighs was conceived, starting as a food truck venture that evolved into a successful establishment over the next decade, providing employment opportunities to many. Known for his versatility in cooking, fixing, and designing, Matthew poured his passion into the business, contributing greatly to its prosperity.
His personal life was marked by a love for speed—whether in cars, boats, or off-road vehicles. Matthew’s trademark blue and green colors adorned everything he owned, down to his customized gear. Music played a central role in his adventures, each accompanied by a lively playlist, reflecting his vibrant spirit.
In September 2020, Matthew found his life partner in Molly, whom he married in April 1st 2023. They shared a passion for travel, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends. Matthew deeply cherished his relationships with his nieces and nephews, fostering strong bonds in a short time.
