(Lincoln, NE) – Former Harlan Cyclone, Brett Sears, has surely made his mark for the Nebraska Huskers after earning Second-Team All-American recognition from D1Baseball.
Sears has been named for multiple awards until this point after being named a Second-Team All-American by Baseball America, Rawlings (ABCA), National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and Perfect Game throughout the month of June. He has also been named as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, National Pitcher of the Year, and a First-Team All-Big Ten honoree while earning one of the best records in Nebraska history at 9-1 with a 2.16 ERA with 101 strikeouts. Sears became the first Nebraska pitcher since 1999 to earn a 9-0 record on the mound with the initial win over Purdue.
While ranking fourth in the nation in WHIP at 0.88, fifth in ERA at 2.16, 19th in strikeouts-to-walk ratio at 5.32, and 20th in hits allowed per nine innings at 6.23, Sears became one of the top pitchers in the nation while receiving national attention. He is the first Husker pitcher with 100+ strikeouts since 208, ranking the ninth-most in program history. The Nebraska pitcher also completed the season tied for eighth in program history with 104 innings pitched.
