(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW softball is red hot as they have now won five straight games. The Lady Vikes have even defeated opponents such as Missouri Valley and West Monona who were state-ranked and were both on winning streaks of their own. Just in their last eight games, AHSTW has pulled in seven wins to put them at an overall 13-8 record as we head toward the end of the regular season. Head Coach Katie Pace has seen the way that her girls work for one another and have developed that trust within the team.
The Lady Vikes are led in the circle by two different pitchers, Etta Partlow and Loralei Wahling who have been the core pieces to the defense this season. Partlow leads the team with a 2.00 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 77 innings pitched and has allowed just 22 earned runs on the season. Wahling has a 4.25 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched with 35 earned runs on the year. These two have been dynamic to help push the team in the right direction.
Speaking of defensive standouts, both Graycen Partlow and Halle Goodman have been key leaders both on the field and at the plate. At shortstop, Partlow has a .853 field percentage while batting .293 with 22 singles and 7 RBIs. Goodman has been a key player at third base with a .873 fielding percentage while hitting .227 at the plate with a team-low eight strikeouts.
AHSTW just had a bit of a break to have some time to not only rest but enjoy their summer. They have not played in a game since Monday, and have been able to soak in the winning streak.
An aspect of AHSTW’s winning streak is their fight for themselves and the team. When you have one common goal, it pushes teams to move forward in the right direction.
The Lady Vikes will be back at it tomorrow (June 28th) when they battle Fremont-Mills on the road with the game starting at 7:15 p.m.
