(Red Oak, IA) – On Tuesday morning at 12:03 A.M., Officers of the Red Oak Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction. Upon initiating their lights and sirens, the vehicle failed to yield and took off on Broadway northbound eluding Red Oak officers.
The vehicle continued northbound on Highway 48 while going at speeds of 105 miles per hour. The vehicle then traveled west on 130th Street where it turned and eventually drove through a private residence driveway onto their property. Red Oak officers followed the vehicle that was unfamiliar with the area rammed through two cattle gates and then became stuck in the cattle lot due to the mud underneath the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Michael Scott Stafford, refused to cooperate with law enforcement to exit the vehicle. After a short period of time, Stafford removed himself from the vehicle and was taken into custody.
Stafford was transported to the Mongomery County Jail where he was booked on one count of Eluding speeds over 25 miles over the posted speed limit as a Class D Felony and was held on a $5,000 bond.
Red Oak Police was assisted by the Mongomery County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Unit, Iowa State Patrol, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Mills County Sheriff’s Office, Red Oak Fire Department, and K9 Bane.
