(Lewis) Deer fawning season starts the first week of May and peaks in the first few weeks of June. John Lorenzen, with the DNR Office in Lewis, says callers have inquired about what they believe are abandoned Fawns. The best advice is to leave them alone because Momma is close by.
Lorenzen says it is expected to stumble across a fawn without a doe present. He says the doe will return if you leave the fawn alone; that is how they do business.
Lorenzen says the white spots on the fawn match the sunlight spots on the forest floor from the sun shining through the timber canopy. So, if you find a Fawn, leave it be.
