(NAFB) Medicare fraud costs an estimated $60 billion per year. Ingrid Kundinger is the Wisconsin Senior Medicare Patrol Project Manager. She says many people don’t realize just how much Medicare fraud can cost.
June 3-9 is Medicare Fraud Prevention Week. She says many Medicare recipients receive phone calls from scammers pretending to be from Medicare.
Kundinger says in worst-case scenarios, she’s seen individuals who have between $12,000 to $15,000 in suspicious claims on their statements. Family members and caregivers can play a big role in protecting loved ones from fraud.
The Senior Medicare Patrol also offers a free senior Medicare tracker, which is a small notebook to help keep track of medical information, including doctor’s appointments. For more information or to get a free tracker, go to smpwi.org.
