(Guthrie Center, IA) ACGC will start its softball season this week with a couple of games throughout the week. The Chargers are looking for a bounce-back year after struggling in the last two seasons going 7-20 a year ago and 8-19 the season before. ACGC Coach Eric Van Meter is hoping to finish in the top three of the conference this year.
ACGC plays some tough games throughout the season including double-headers on the road against preseason 2A No. 1 and No. 7 in Van Meter and Interstate-35 (Truro). The Chargers will also host a double-header against preseason No. 7 in 1A Earlham next Thursday.
Coach Van Meter says they will go all in to win one game in each of the double-headers.
The Chargers return the bulk of starters from a year ago including five seniors who have racked up a total of 350 games played dating back to their Freshman year. Among those Seniors is Emerson Van Meter who will start the majority of games for the Chargers this year in the pitcher’s circle. Infielder Mersadez Richter led the team in batting average a year ago and has been top three on the team in two of the last three seasons for the Chargers.
Coach Van Meter says the team will go as far as the Seniors take them.
ACGC will start their season at Glidden Ralston tonight (May 23) at 5:00 p.m.
