(Lincoln, NE) – The Nebraska men’s tennis program is sticking with former interim head coach Peter Kobelt after he led the Huskers to one of their best seasons. He is officially the head coach of the men’s tennis program for the Huskers.
His record as a first-year coach was 17-10 which is the first 17-win season for Nebraska since 1990. Kobelt also led Nebraska to their first Big Ten Tournament Semifinal in school history. Kobelt formally served as the assistant coach for Nebraska last season and helped the team reach 45th overall in the nation throughout the 2022-23 season. Before Nebraska, Kobelt formally coached at the University of Kentucky for two seasons as a volunteer and helped with Kentucky’s #7 national ranking overall.
“I am extremely honored for the opportunity to continue coaching here at the University of Nebraska,” Kobelt said. “Over the last two years, I’ve seen personally how special this place is and I am thrilled to be able to continue to call Lincoln home. Our program has more momentum behind it now than it ever has before, and I truly believe we can accomplish everything that we set out to do. My goal is to continue developing a winning culture within our program that focuses on sustained success on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. I truly believe that Nebraska does it better than everyone else, from having the very best facilities to the unmatched student-athlete resources and most of all, the best fans in all of college sports.”
Kobelt was a college and professional player in the past, playing #332 singles and #378 doubles rankings at Ohio State. He formally led the Buckeyes to their first NCAA Indoor Championship in 2014 and was named the Most Outstanding Player.
