(Audubon, IA) – The Audubon Wheelers look to get back to the tennis courts this week after the matchup with Southwest Valley was canceled due to the poor weather on Tuesday. Just recently, the Wheelers fell to Kuemper Catholic in a competitive matchup 8-1. While the score may not look like it was close, the individual matchups themselves were tough all the way down to the wire against a top Kuemper Catholic team.
These girls continue to push forward, including Ava Slater who sits as the number-one singles player and is on the top team in doubles with Gery Anderson. Head Coach McKenzie Nissen has been proud to coach Slater who is an athlete who has continued to grow out of her shell and has become even more knowledgable on the court.
This group of girls work together both on and off the court which helps the success of the Wheelers. That includes doubles partners Rachel Rynearson and Briley Belnap who doubled up for the first time as doubles partners and earned an 8-6 victory over Kuemper Catholic’s Regan Gerringer and Karsyn Lampman.
Audubon will be facing off today against a highly-ranked Clarinda Cardinals team that ranks right alongside Kuemper. Last week’s performance helped the Wheelers prepare for the Cardinals and Coach Nissen is putting forth the same expectations today just as they did last week.
The Wheelers host the Cardinals today with a 4:30 p.m. start, weather permitting. They’ll then prepare for Monday’s Class 1A Region 2 singles and doubles matchup in Atlantic which starts at 9:00 a.m.
