(USDA) According to the latest crop progress report from the USDA, twelve percent of the nation’s corn crop is in the ground. The NASS report shows corn planting is equal to last spring and two percentage points ahead of the five-year average of 10 percent.
Texas leads the way with 68 percent of its corn planted. Missouri has 47 percent on the ground, Iowa has 13 percent, and Illinois has 11 percent. Three percent of the corn emerged on Sunday, one point ahead of last year, and the five-year average is two percent.
As of Sunday, eight percent of the nation’s soybean crop had been planted. This pace is equal to last year’s and four percent ahead of the five-year average of four percent. Louisiana leads the way with 42 percent of its crop planted, Mississippi has 28 percent, Illinois has 11 percent, and Iowa has eight percent of its seed in the ground.
