(Lincoln, NE) – Fred Hoiberg and the Nebraska Huskers just picked up one of the best transfers for the 2024-25 season. Former Rutgers point guard Gavin Griffiths will be joining the Huskers with a total of three years of eligibility remaining in his career.
Last season, he played in every game for the Scarlett Knights, averaging 5.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. The freshman also had some top team rankings while ranking second in three-pointers with 31 and third in blocked shots with 13. Towards the end of the season, the freshman was averaging 11.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while also shooting 38% from the hardwood.
“Gavin is an elite shooter with deep range,” Hoiberg said. “Spacing is so important in our system, and his skillset fits what we are looking for. He handles the ball well and possesses the length and athleticism to give us flexibility and positional size in our lineup. Gavin has a year of Big Ten experience under his belt, and you could see his confidence grow over the course of last season, especially in the last month when he shot 37 percent from 3-point range.”
Griffiths was a top 50 recruit out of high school and comes from a basketball family. His father is a member of Hartford’s Hall of Fame with 1,181 points and 694 rebounds in his career while his mother also played for Hartford from 1988 to 1992. He will help the Huskers with his size and athletic ability on the perimeter and will help in the three-point shots to replace Tominaga who was one of the top three-point shooters for Nebraska this past season.
