(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa’s Payton Sandfort has been named a College Sports Communicators Second-Team Academic All-American. The Waukee native is now the seventh Hawkeye in Academic All-American in Iowa men’s basketball history and first since 2016.
Sandfort was a hard worker both out on the court and in the classroom, earning himself a 3.91 GPA in finance and led the team on the court in scoring with 16.4 points and in rebounds with 6.6 per game. He earned Iowa’s first triple-double in Iowa men’s basketball history against Penn State and even finished the season with five double-doubles. Sandfort was a third-team All-Big Ten selection and led the Big Ten in three-point field goals with 94.
Iowa finished the season 19-15 overall and tied for sixth in the Big Ten with a 10-10 record. Sandfort is looking towards an NBA career after entering the NBA Draft just a few months ago.
