(Des Moines) Iowa legislators are working on budgets, tax bills, and other policy items before they wrap up this year’s session. Iowa House District #18 Representative Tom Moore, of Griswold says at this point, it becomes a “hurry up and wait” situation.
Moore says that before the Iowa Legislators call it a day, they must agree on all budgets; the education appropriations budget will be particularly challenging.
Lawmakers still have work to be done on the state’s major tax reform bill.
The teacher compensation bill raised teacher salaries to 47,500 and $50,000 for beginning teachers and over $60,000 for teachers with 12 or more years of experience. The additional $14 million for educational support staff to get as close to $15 per hour as possible will be included in the standings bill.
Representative Moore says there is a 50/50 chance the session will wrap up on Saturday.
