(Walnut) A grass fire along Interstate 80 spread north to a homestead, destroying two building sites and contents.
Walnut Fire Chief Michael Chapman tells KSOM/KS95 News that the call for a grass fire on the north side of Interstate 80 near the 48-mile marker went out at around 2:10 p.m. on Monday.
Chief Chapman says the fire spread north to a residence, destroying two barns and its contents. Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to the home. Chapman says firemen brought the blaze under control in approximately an hour. He says the cause of the fire is unknown, and there were no injuries.
Chief Chapman thanked a farmer for helping with the tractor and disk. The Atlantic, Avoca, Elk Horn, Harlan, and Marne fire departments assisted the Walnut Fire Department.
