(Atlantic) The City of Atlantic contracted the Nishna Valley Family YMCA to operate the Sunnyside Pool this summer. This means the Y will hire all the management and staff to run the Pool.
Nishna Valley Family YMCA Executive Director Dan Haynes announced that an anonymous donor will pay for the first ten people to take the lifeguarding class who plan to work for the YMCA at Sunnyside Pool or the YMCA Indoor Pool. The generous contribution will pay the normal $200 fee for the first ten people who take the classes sponsored by the YMCA and plan to work at the YMCA at the indoor or outdoor pool.
Dan Haynes says the new starting wage for lifeguards is $15.00 per hour or more, depending on experience for all lifeguarding positions. Lifeguard candidates must be 15 years old by the last day of class. Additionally, this class is for adults interested in lifeguarding.
The registration deadline is April 17, which gives applicants time to complete the online portion of the class.
The Red Cross Lifeguard classes will be:
April 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (pre-req swim), or arrange another time with the instructors’ online portion of the class. The online portion must be completed before attending the first session.
May 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
May 4 and 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The YMCA will also hire a three-month seasonal manager and assistant manager(s) for the Sunnyside Pool. These positions pay up to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience. The Manager position requires leadership skills to organize a staff team and provide a safe team and provide a safe, fun, professional, and encouraging atmosphere. The Manager position will come with a FREE one-year adult or family membership to the Y and support from our newly formed Aquatics Committee, which comprises YMCA and community representatives.
