(Ames, IA) – Iowa State’s David Carr had an impressive performance last week, to say the least. The Cyclone earned his second National Title helping Iowa State to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships last week, earning his spot at the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week.
Carr’s title was the first National Title for any Cyclone since 2010 and the 17th overall award in the National Championships. The Ohio native made it to the podium four times, just the 12th Cyclone to do so and the sixth Iowa State wrestler to win a title at two different weight classes.
In the semifinal match, Carr was able to hold through with just 53 seconds left in the match, getting out of a takedown position and hanging through to secure a takedown of his own with just 10 seconds remaining.
Carr finished his career at Iowa State with a 120-5 record which marks the 15th most wins in Iowa State history. Carr’s .960 winning percentage ranks fourth in program history while also being named a three-time national finalist.
