(Griswold, IA) – Griswold has officially approved Ryan Lockwood as the head coach of the boy’s basketball program. This news comes as former boy’s basketball head coach Matt Spunaugle announced that he was moving to Missouri after he graduated in the spring. Lockwood formally served as the girl’s basketball head coach for two years, while serving as an assistant to Chris Hamilton for three seasons.
The timing seemed perfect for Lockwood to take over the boy’s basketball program. Griswold brings back the entire team from last season, including leading scorers Bode Wyman and Peyton Cook who averaged over 11 points per game last year. Lockwood saw the perfect connection with the boys as the baseball coach and that it would be the best option moving forward to shift to being the boy’s basketball coach.
Lockwood was able to help grow the girl’s basketball program in becoming a more defensive team. The defensive growth continued to pay off for the girls and will look to continue going forward next season, even without Lockwood at the helm.
Coach Lockwood emphasized that he is looking forward to continuing the growth and hard work that has continued to pay off for the boy’s basketball program over the last few years. The Tigers will feature six seniors next season who have continued to help accelerate the growth of the program and will compete at the highest level.
Lockwood was officially approved by the school board on Tuesday, March 19th to take over as the Varsity Boy’s Basketball Coach. He is taking over a program that went 5-16 and 3-9 in Corner Conference play.
