(Des Moines) Iowa House District #23 Representative Ray Sorensen stated at the same time that the Governor’s original AEA reform proposal was killed in committee, and we have continued discussions with stakeholders to draft our legislation in the House.
Sorensen says the goal of the House bill is to improve special education outcomes. The bill would do this by providing accountability over the AEA’s services, creating a task force to review the current system and look for improvement areas, and giving the school districts more flexibility on how to spend their money.
The Greenfield Republican Representative says they continue to take feedback from Iowans in crafting this bill. This past week, there was a public hearing where they heard from parents, students, teachers, AEA Employees, Superintendents, and more.
