(Greenfield, IA) – What a season for Nodaway Valley wrestling featuring an Iowa State Champion and a third-place finisher in the state meet. Ashton Honnold was able to wrestle his way to the State Final and it went all the way down to the wire. Head Coach and father of Ashton, Brad Honnold, remembers the whole thing as a blur of excitement and joy for his son and state champ.
While coming close to the state final, Trent Warner was able to go all the way down the line, earning the third-place finish at the state tournament. Warner beat an Iowa football recruit, Cody Fox, for the third-place match, and he could not have been more locked in and ready to take down one of the top wrestlers in the state. Finishing third has its perks because it just shows that next year, Warner has a chance to be the top-ranking and championship title in his weight class.
The future of Nodaway Valley wrestling is brighter than ever. These athletes not only have the athletic ability to be at the top of the state rankings, but also their work ethic shows how these athletes continue to shape the future of Nodaway Valley. This doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon for wrestling and will transfer through all Wolverine athletics.
Congratulations to the Nodaway Valley Wolverines on such a successful season as their athletes prepare for the spring season that is coming up quickly.
