(Des Moines) This week, the Iowa House passed House File 2613 to increase Supplemental State Aid (SSA) funding by three percent.
Iowa House Representative Tom Moore says SSA is the amount of new funding committed by the state to local school districts. He said this increase amounts to approximately 15-million dollars for Foundation Formula, 24-million dollars to backfill schools for a tax snafu, 108-million dollars in new money for Fiscal Year 2024, and $7,864 per student – an increase of $229 over FY 2024.
Moore said this number must be agreed upon with the Senate and the Governor, who originally proposed a 2.5-percent increase.
Tom Moore said with this increase in SSA funding, school districts will have additional money to raise veteran teacher salaries how they see fit.
