(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW wrestling saw a new face at the head of their program this season with Evan Hansen but continued their history of success. Both Kayden Baxter and Henry Lund were state qualifiers this year for the Vikings, as they also featured six other wrestlers who finished in the top four in Saturday’s districts, finishing third as a team.
Kayden Baxter won his match at 157 yesterday in the quarterfinals to advance on an 11-5 decision. The other state qualifier Henry Lund lost by a 16-14 decision in consolation last night. At this point in the tournament, nothing is looking to change for the Vikings, as they’ll look to advance Kayden Baxter further on the bracket and to the top of the podium.
This State Tournament brings back a bit of nostalgia for Head Coach Evan Hansen as it has been quite some time since he has been down on the mats in Wells Fargo. He is utilizing his previous experience in the state tournament to help Baxter advance further in the tournament.
AHSTW hits the mats once again tonight at 6:00 p.m. We will have all the audio action right on our website at Western Iowa Today’s Audio stream with Austin West on the call.
