(Atlantic) Atlantic and Red Oak square off for the second time this season in a boy’s basketball game on Tuesday night. The Tigers (7-9) won the first meeting 77-72 at Atlantic on January 16. Both teams have experienced success as of late; Red Oak has won two out of their last three games. Atlantic (5-10) enters the road game at Red Oak with two straight wins.
The Trojans topped both Creston and St. Albert on the road last week.
Atlantic Head Coach Dalton Franken says Red Oak can score in bunches and put and attack the rim with success. He says Hunter Gilleland played a significant role in the Tiger’s win over Atlantic in the first outing. The senior went 8-13 from the field and scored 30 points. Max DeVries added 25.
Red Oak and Atlantic have similar numbers. The Tigers average 61.6 points per game—Atlantic averages 60.9. So, who will come out on top this second time around?
The two teams mirror each other defensively. The Rams are giving up an average of 62.6. Atlantic’s opposition is averaging 62.4 points each game.
Colton Rasmussen is tied for second in scoring in Class 3A with 430 points. And is the Class 3A leader in free throws with 128.
De Vries is averaging 20 points per game, and Gilleland is 14.8.
