(Anita, IA) – It comes as no surprise that multiple teams have not been able to get in the gym as of late due to school cancellations and even snow drifts that may be blocking the front door. The CAM boy’s basketball team sits in that boat among many local teams as their game against Woodbine was postponed on Tuesday and they won’t see the game floor until Friday when they take on West Harrison, separating them by two weeks without a game.
When they have been able to hit the hardwood, the Cougars have a few offensive weapons that help to make their offense consistent. A player that stands out to Head Coach Ian Hunt is Chase Spieker who has been the player that CAM has relied on to get the ball down the floor and utilize the open lanes to score. The junior is currently averaging 11.4 points and 1.8 steals per game this season as he only continues to get better.
CAM has been, to say the least, consistent offensively this season. Collin Bower, Ryan Bower, and Chase Jahde all have been averaging 12 points or better per game this season for CAM. This is a great thing as a coach because you know what to expect going into every game with these three talented athletes.
On Friday, the Cougars will be rematching against West Harrison whom they beat 65-54 earlier this season. The Cougars need to halt the momentum of Mason McIntosh and Joe Barry who combined for 39 of West Harrison’s 54 points in that last competition.
While the scoring is consistent, the momentum on the floor has not always been consistent. One thing that Coach Hunt wants his boys to focus on throughout the remainder of the month is creating consistency on both the offensive and defensive ends that will help them hold late in games.
CAM returns to action this upcoming Friday, January 19th when they take on West Harrison at West Harrison High School. The opening tipoff will be after the girl’s game, around 7:30 p.m.
