(Atlantic) The bone-chilling temperatures forecasted for the coming days could cause various problems, including frozen pipes inside your home. During bitterly cold snaps, Atlantic Municipal Utilities receives numerous calls of frozen pipes inside their homes and businesses when the temperatures plummet.
Steve Tjepkes, AMU General Manager, discusses preventative measures such as insulating pipes.
Tjepkes says to let your faucet drip, especially at night.
Disconnect garden hoses from the outside water faucet, open cabinet doors to allow heat to get in, and know the location of the water shut-off valve in the basement.
When saving money on heating costs, program the thermostat to 60-65 degrees at night and 68-degrees during the day.
