(Undated) — Suicide rates among older adults are continuing to climb. That’s according to University of Iowa Assistant Professor Jonathan Platt.
Rates were higher for people over the age of 35 and rates decreased for people younger. Platt says younger people are more comfortable talking about mental health compared to older generations. However, In Iowa, residents have a hard time getting help for mental health.
The Department of Justice says compared to other states Iowa ranks last in the number of psychiatric beds available and has a low number of licensed psychiatrists.
