(Shenandoah) Shenandoah rallied to defeat Atlantic 56-47 in overtime at Shenandoah on Tuesday night. Lynnae Green knocked down a three-point shot from the top of the key with 3.5 seconds left to tie the game at 44-44 and send it into overtime. The Fillies went on a 10-0 run in the four-minute overtime period to win 56-47.
The Trojans rolled out a 6-0 run to start the game and led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter. Zoey Kirchhoff and Maddie Richter each scored three-point shots to spark the offense. The Trojans scored 11 points in the second frame while holding the Fillies to 7 and led 27-15 at the break.
Shenandoah came out in the second half and began chipping away at the deficit while holding Atlantic to just three third-quarter points. Caroline Rogers nailed a three-point shot, Chloe Denton added two field goals, and Kassidy Stephens and Jenna Burdorf added a combined four points to pull the home team within four, 32-28 at the end of the third quarter.
Shenandoah tied the game 41-41 in the fourth quarter on Kassidy Stephen’s three-point shot. However, Paytn Harter answered for the Trojans with a layup and one to put the visitors back on top 43-41. The Trojans tacked on a free throw for a three-point lead before Green Splashed down a three-point basket from the top of the key to tie the game at 44-44 after regulation.
Shenandoah kept the momentum into the four-minute overtime, jumping out on a 10-0 run while holding the Trojans to one field goal and the 56-47 final.
Lynnae Green led Shenandoah with 16 points, Chloe Denton, 14, Kassidy Stephens added 11, Caroline Rogers, 9, Jenna Burdorf, 5, and Kylie Foutch, 3.
Zoey Kirchhoff led the Trojans with 18 points, Maddie Richter, 13, Makenna Schroeder, Lila Wiederstein, Paytn Harter, 5, and Katrina Williams, 2.
Atlantic hosts St. Albert on Thursday. Shenandoah travels to Fremont-Mills on January 4.
