(Harlan, IA) – The Cyclones have announced two football signings on National Signing Day as both Cade Sears and Franz Reisz have made their final decisions. Sears has signed with South Dakota State while Reisz signed with the University of Northern Iowa early Wednesday morning.
During the season, Cade Sears played a pivotal role on the receiving end for the Cyclones. The senior was second on the team in receiving yards with 496 yards on 24 receptions. Sears was also able to get seven touchdowns with those 24 receptions which also put him second on the team. Defensively, Sears had 13.5 tackles on the season when he had to play in a defensive role.
Sears will be joining a South Dakota State team that currently sits at 14-0 on the season as they move to the FCS Championship game. The Jackrabbits are competing in their second consecutive FCS Championship after beating North Dakota State last season in the Championship game.
Franz Reisz has played as a defensive catalyst this season for Harlan on the defensive end while also playing on the offensive line for the Cyclones. He is planning to play on the defensive end for UNI as he had 25 tackles, three sacks, and 7.5 tackles for loss this season. Reisz also was the leading punter for the Cyclones this season and helped get the Cyclones out of multiple sticky situations. The senior had 11 punts for 421 yards which averaged around 38.3 yards per punt.
Reisz will be joining a UNI team that finished 6-5 on the season and featured seven All-Americans and 13 All-MVFC players this year. UNI has been very consistent over the last three seasons as they have had six wins in the last three years while leading one of the top offenses in FCS football.
Congratulations to both Reisz and Sears on further pursuing their academic and athletic careers.
