(Iowa) An active weather pattern is expected to bring repeated chances for thunderstorms across the region through at least the middle of next week.
The National Weather Service says more widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this weekend and continue into next week. Some storms could become strong to severe, and periods of heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding.
For Saturday, storm chances remain in the forecast, although the overall severe weather threat is expected to be low. A few stronger storms could still produce gusty winds or hail.
More widespread storms are expected on Sunday, followed by an increased risk of severe weather and heavy rainfall on Monday. The potential for additional heavy rain continues into the middle of next week.
Forecasters say repeated rounds of rainfall could increase the risk of flooding, particularly in areas that receive several rounds of heavy precipitation. Exactly where the heaviest rain and strongest storms develop will become clearer as the forecast gets closer.
