(NAFB) The White House held a press conference to call on Congress to fully fund the Women’s, Infants, and Children’s Program, known as WIC (wick). It provides nutrition assistance for almost 6.7 million pregnant women, new mothers, babies, and young children across the country. Without full funding, the welfare of millions of vulnerable Americans is at risk. Neera Tanden, Director of the Domestic Policy Council, says WIC is a vital program for many.
A lack of full funding means states would have to make hard choices.
USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small is asking Congress for full funding in January.
Without enough funding, states would have to reduce participation by about two million children and pregnant and postpartum adults nationwide by September 2024.
