(Washington, DC) The Biden administration is pitching a new border plan that would deport more illegal immigrants without asylum screenings. The President says he is willing to compromise to win over hardline Republicans but is also slamming them for it.
The immigration policy changes are part of a proposed 100-billion-dollar package that includes military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The GOP has repeatedly demanded that border security be on the table to get a deal done by Christmas. Sources familiar with the discussions tell NBC News a significant expansion of migrant detention and deportation is on the table, along with stricter asylum laws.
Chris Cabrera with the National Border Patrol Council said the changes are necessary.
