(Atlantic) Elsa Tiefenthaler of Kuemper had herself a night in Tuesday’s girl’s basketball game at Atlantic. The 5’6 sophomore guard scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Knights to a 61-51 win over Atlantic. Tiefenthaler finished the game with 31 points.
After the game, Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason.
Maddie Richter broke the 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter with a triple, pushing the Trojans to a 17-14 advantage earlier in the second quarter.
Paytn Harter and Richter combined for 44 of the Trojans’ 51 points, Makenna Schroeder added three, Claire Pellet, two, and Peyton McLaren chipped in two. Coach Vargason is looking for more of a balanced score sheet.
The Trojans outscored the Knights 16-11 in the third quarter and opened a 39-33 lead after three quarters. Richter scored nine of the Trojans’ 12 fourth-quarter points, insufficient to douse Tiefenthaler’s hot hand in the final stanza. She splashed in three from beyond the arc, three field goals, and drained nine free throws to seal the 51-41 victory.
Six other players scored for the Knights. Kaylie Simons came off the bench and knocked in nine points; Lauren Boell, six; Aubrey Heuton, five; Frannie Glynn, 4; Karsyn Overmohle and Charlotte Hackfort each chipped in three points. l
The 2-3 Knights travel to Greene County on Saturday. Atlantic (3-5) hosts Lewis Central on Friday.
