(Des Moines) Nearly 60 Methodist congregations in Iowa celebrated full independence from the United Methodist church this weekend. Over 140 Methodist congregations in Iowa separated from the United Methodist Church. It comes after an over forty-year debate over issues of human sexuality and whether or not the gay lifestyle is acceptable in Christianity. These two waves of churches voting to leave and then leaving is part of a national and global movement in Methodism.
