(Undated) Iowa is the 4th worst state in the U.S. for porch pirate thefts. The FBI says there are nearly 140 thefts from buildings for every 100-thousand Iowa residents. Almost eight in 10 Americans had packages stolen from them in 2022. The FBI says porch pirates stole more than 260 million packages last year, estimated at 19-point-5 billion dollars worth of thefts.
According to a SafeWise survey, three out of four people said they had a package stolen from their house over the past year, and about four out of six respondents said they had more than one taken.
It has been reported thieves have stolen packages right out of delivery drivers’ hands. Additionally, there are cases where porch pirates disguise themselves as Amazon drivers.
