(Atlantic) The Atlantic Fire Department was called to a house fire late Sunday afternoon.
Atlantic Fire Chief Tom Cappel says the call went out at 4:19 p.m. at 2821 County Club Drive in Atlantic. Cappel says witnesses alerted dispatch when they saw smoke coming from the residence.
Chief Cappel says the homeowner had taken in some smoke and was sitting outside the home. Cappel noted, at that point, it was an interior attack.
Cappel says they got a quick knockdown in the home’s basement and pulled some items out. He says the fire flashed, put itself out, and broke basement windows, letting oxygen inside.
Chief Cappel says a burning candle caused the blaze. The homeowner was treated at the scene.
Chief Cappel thanks the Atlantic Police Department and Cass EMS for assisting at the scene.
