(Griswold, IA) – Tonight we will see Griswold take on Fremont-Mills in the Class 1A Region 3 volleyball regional matchup. The Tigers have already taken on the Knights twice this season and beat them 3-0 in August and 3-1 in September. The Tigers and the Knights are currently 10-10 in their series history according to GoBound.
In the Tigers’ last match against the Knights, they were not able to shut out the Knights as Fremont Mills won the first set. Griswold was able to take the match and win the following three sets for their second straight win this season over Fremont-Mills. Gabbie Greiman led in kills with 17 and earned two blocks for the Tigers while Marissa Askeland and R’Nya Kirchhoff earned 13 kills and 13 digs each. Whitney Pennock had a total of 37 digs and averaged 9.3 digs per set. Carolina Arcia had 48 assists in the game and also earned two aces.
For Fremont-Mills, the Knights were led in the last game in kills by Carlie Chambers with 15 kills and earned one ace. Lindze Smith had 14 kills and also earned an ace. Leading in the setting game was Lana Alley with 24 assists while Mylie Hughes had 13 assists on the night. Bella Gute had 42 digs while Addison Brandt also had 23 digs.
Griswold is coming off a 3-2 loss to Sidney as they lost the final set 19-17 in a very close matchup. Leading in kills for the Tigers is Gabbie Greiman with 245 and in blocks with 44 total blocks overall. R’Nya Kirchhoff is second behind Greiman in kills with 221 and is tied on the team in serving aces with 38. Carolina Arcia leads the team in assists this season with a total of 695, second on the team in blocks with 23, and third on the team in aces with 37. Whitney Pennock leads the team in digs with a total of 473 as she broke the single-season school record in digs while she also leads in aces with 42.
Fremont-Mills is coming off a 2-0 win over Ar-We-Va after falling to ACGC in the match before 2-0. Leading the team overall in kills is Carlie Chambers as she has 244 kills. Lindze Smith is second on the team in kills with 124 in 72 sets played this season. The Knights run a two-setter offense with Mylie Hughes and Lana Alley. Hughes leads the team with 284 assists and in aces with 35. Alley had 270 assists and is tied for second on the team in serving aces with 25. Bella Gute has seen just about 1/3 of the digs in the back row this season with 505 digs while Addison Brandt had 253 digs and tied in serving aces with Alley as she has 25.
