(Guthrie Center, IA) – Week eight is here and ACGC has continued to win games as they earned a non-district win over Mount Ayr last week 42-18. Mount Ayr was a very worthy opponent as they had taken on both Madrid and #8 Lynnville-Sully this season in tight competitions. Coach Matthewson said that this win is a win that shows that ACGC is one of the top teams in the state.
The offense was rolling last week for the Chargers as they were led by Nate Chance who rushed for 125 yards and earned two touchdowns. Both Anthony Solorzano and Jathan South rushed for 95 yards and earned a touchdown as well for ACGC. Mike Fuller was questionable before the competition but played in the game against the Raiders as he rushed for 105 yards and earned two touchdowns. Coach Matthewson said that the junior was a game-day decision.
ACGC is 7-0 this season after last week’s win. They have only lost three games in the last three seasons after losses to Van Meter and one loss to Greene County. The Chargers have Southwest Valley this week, a team that was ranked #5 in the preseason poll before they were dealt a line of injuries this season. Rather than playing to the Timberwolves’ record, they are looking to match up against Southwest Valley as if they were still ranked #5 in the state.
The defense had three sacks and held Mount Ayr to just 18 points overall in the last competition. A few weeks ago against IKM-Manning, the defense was not up to expectations. Last week, the Chargers held Mount Ayr to 267 yards and just three touchdowns as they look to keep Southwest Valley on their toes.
ACGC will travel to Southwest Valley in a district matchup on Friday for the Timberwolves’ senior night. The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
