(Audubon, IA) – The Audubon Wheelers had more than a successful Friday last week as they were able to capture a 68-18 win over Collins-Maxwell and even scored 34 total points in the third quarter alone. Audubon’s first half was a more offensive half as Audubon was able to get off to a good start in the second quarter, scoring 20 points compared to just eight in the first quarter. The second half could not have been more opposite as the offense took just 10 snaps and relied on the defense with a punt return, kick return, and interception all leading back to a touchdown.
Carson Wessel rushed for 133 yards and four touchdowns while Aaron Olsen rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Evan Alt also rushed for 43 yards and earned a touchdown for the Wheelers to help on the offensive end. Head coach Sean Birks continues to rely on the rushing game and looks to continue to succeed with the running game on the offensive end.
Sophomore Austin Christensen has been more than impactful, as he had eight tackles in their win over Collins-Maxwell. He has been the leading tackler for Audubon in their last three games and looks to make it four. While he joined the Wheelers just before the start of camp this season, Christensen has been playing like Audubon has always been his home.
This week, Audubon will be taking on Baxter in a district matchup as the Bolts rely on the impressive arm of Perrin Sulzle who has passed for 2,000 yards this season, topping the stats for 8-player football in the state. Baxter also had 269 passing yards in his last game alone while also earning six passing touchdowns. The secondary defense of the Wheelers will face their toughest challenge this Friday night.
Audubon hosts Baxter underneath the lights in a district matchup for week eight of football action with a kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
