(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars remain undefeated and continue to make strides toward perfection as they are 5-0. In their last competition against Exira-EHK, the Cougars earned their lowest-scoring win of the season 36-12, even after going scoreless in the fourth quarter. Head Coach Barry Bower was impressed with his team as they continued to push forward and saw big improvements in two key aspects.
Brody Paulsen and Austin Williams rushed for 107 combined yards and two touchdowns which helped CAM in the rushing game. Chase Spieker rushed for 44 yards and threw for 147 yards with three touchdowns in the competition. The Cougars credit the blocking coverage up front for their success to go downfield.
Exira-EHK is a team that likes to mix up the offense, but CAM kept the same system and didn’t change up the defensive game. Coach Barry Bower is looking to just have his defense stay effective and make plays while keeping things simple.
The Cougars have continued a physical approach on the defensive side and want teams to make the little plays. As the little plays continue, the mistakes creep up and the defense flies in.
CAM will take on Sidney in a district matchup on Friday as Sidney lost to Exira-EHK in week four 62-32. The Cowboys are led by Grant Whitehead as he had 204 passing yards and one touchdown in last week’s loss to Boyer Valley. The Cowboys also have a good defensive duo of LaDarius Albright and Parker Meyers as they had 5.5 total tackles each. CAM has a tough defensive test against Sidney.
The Cougars will take on the Cowboys in a district matchup underneath the lights in week six for CAM’s homecoming game. That game will be broadcast on KSOM 96.5 FM and live-streamed on Western Iowa Today with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call.
