(Atlantic) Atlantic and Winterset face off in a non-district football game at Atlantic on Friday. Both teams enter the contest with 1-2 records. The Trojans won their first outing over Clarke 47-33 and have fallen short the last two to Glenwood, 47-6, and Greene County 41-6.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says momentum will be crucial for his team on Friday night.
This will be the final non-district contest before the Trojans start district play next week. Brummer says the Trojans must shore things up on defense and play gap-sound football.
Homecoming always brings with it some distractions for the players. Coach Brummer says the key is to try and keep the routine the same as much as possible.
Two of the Huskies’ playmakers are Quarterback Hunter Lyon and tailback Hank Wilmes. The junior QB has completed 51.9 percent of his passes for 407 yards and two touchdowns. Wilmes has 76 carries for 505 yards and four touchdowns.
Coach Brummer says this week’s theme is execution, eliminating the turnovers, and being in the right spot in the run game. The Trojans have been productive on the offensive end, with 372 yards passing and 506 yards rushing through the first three games. Zayden Parker is 20-35 passing for 305 yards and six touchdowns. Gavin McLaren is averaging 10 yards per carry for 225 yards one touchdown.
We will have the game on 95.7 F.M. and live video streaming on westerniowatoday.com. The pregame show starts at 6:00 p.m. The kick-off is at 7:00.
