(Audubon, IA) – The Audubon Wheelers went against an uncommon opponent of Colo-Nesco and beat the Royals 28-24. Coach Birks talked about the trip to Colo-Nesco and his concern about the weather’s effect on his athletes. He was proud of what his team did early in the game as they came out strong for an early 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Audubon is still looking for a few improvements in their block coverage and to be a bit more physical.
Aaron Olsen rushed for 207 yards last week and earned three rushing touchdowns. Defensively, Olsen was also a dominant force with 6.5 total tackles in the secondary. Coach Birks likes the way that Olsen is playing, but he wants to see Evan Alt become more incorporated into the Wheeler’s rushing game.
Audubon had 24 total tackles in the game against Colo-Nesco as Aaron Olsen led the team in tackles with 6.5 while Austin Christensen earned 5.5 total tackles. The Wheeler’s defense was able to repeatedly stop the Royals and not allow multiple explosive plays down the line.
Exira-EHK is a quick team that is difficult to read. Audubon will be taking on the Spartans in an athletic matchup as the Spartans run a balanced offense of the passing and rushing game. Exira-EHK is led by Jameson Kilworth who passed for 67 yards and one touchdown while also rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns in week two against Stanton. Adding onto the stat sheet was Alex Hansen as he rushed for 98 yards and knocked in two touchdowns. Audubon is ready to take on a tough opponent of the Spartans.
Audubon will travel to take on Exira-EHK with a LIVE broadcast on KSOM 96.5 and video coverage on Western Iowa Today. Zach Collins and Austin West will be on the call with a pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m.
