(Des Moines) Temperatures are heading into the mid-nineties this weekend. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says, unfortunately, we are stuck in a pattern locked into a more significant shift in the atmosphere with Hurricane Idalia in the Atlantic Ocean, a tropical system near Bermuda, preceded by Hurricane Hillary on the Pacific Side.
Glisan says the climate outlook through the middle of September shows high probabilities of warmer temperatures and drier conditions.
Glisan says we are currently in a moderate El Nino, and historically, looking back to El Nino autumns and averaging them all together dating back to 1950, we typically see cooler temperatures and not as dry as in the La Nina weather phase over the past three years.
